The Louisiana FORTIFIED Roof Tax Credit (Act 404)
Act 404 created a Louisiana state income tax credit of up to 10,000 dollars for homeowners who upgrade to an IBHS FORTIFIED roof. It is separate from the Fortify Homes Program grant, and unlike the grant lottery, the credit is available to any qualifying homeowner who completes a FORTIFIED roof.
How the Credit Works
The credit offsets Louisiana state income tax owed. You claim it through the Louisiana Taxpayer Access Point (LaTAP) using your FORTIFIED certificate as documentation. Keep every document from the certified installation.
Stacking the Programs
Louisiana homeowners can stack three money programs on a FORTIFIED roof: the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program grant of up to 10,000 dollars when a lottery round is open, the Act 404 state income tax credit of up to 10,000 dollars, and Act 533 insurance premium discounts of up to 40 percent with select carriers: Liberty Mutual and Safeco up to 40 percent, USAA up to 37 percent, State Farm up to 35 percent, Allstate up to 30 percent. Louisiana Regulation 136 adds a separate mandatory discount on the hurricane portion of the premium for policies issued on or after January 1, 2027.
