FORTIFIED Roof vs Regular Roof

A regular roof is built to code. A FORTIFIED roof is built to a higher engineered standard designed by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety to survive high wind.

What FORTIFIED Adds

A base FORTIFIED Roof requires a sealed roof deck so it stays watertight even if shingles blow off, enhanced ring-shank nail attachment, reinforced hip and ridge caps, and FORTIFIED edge detailing. Each of those is a common failure point on a standard roof in a Louisiana storm.

Only FORTIFIED Earns the Discount

Louisiana homeowners can stack three money programs on a FORTIFIED roof: the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program grant of up to 10,000 dollars when a lottery round is open, the Act 404 state income tax credit of up to 10,000 dollars, and Act 533 insurance premium discounts of up to 40 percent with select carriers: Liberty Mutual and Safeco up to 40 percent, USAA up to 37 percent, State Farm up to 35 percent, Allstate up to 30 percent. Louisiana Regulation 136 adds a separate mandatory discount on the hurricane portion of the premium for policies issued on or after January 1, 2027.
