What Is a FORTIFIED Roof?

FORTIFIED is a construction standard from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety, engineered to help a roof survive high wind. It is not a brand or a product.

What the Standard Requires

A base FORTIFIED Roof requires a sealed roof deck so it stays watertight even if shingles come off, enhanced ring-shank nail attachment, reinforced hip and ridge caps, and FORTIFIED edge detailing.

Why It Pays Back

Every designation is verified by an independent IBHS Evaluator, which is why carriers accept it. Only a FORTIFIED roof earns Louisiana's Act 533 and Regulation 136 insurance discounts. Certificates run five years and transfer on sale.
