2026 Louisiana Roof and Insurance Market Alert

Louisiana homeowners are facing rising premiums, tighter underwriting, and non-renewals tied to roof age. The roof is now one of the first things a carrier looks at when deciding whether to keep writing a policy.

What Is Driving It

Repeated major storms have pushed carriers to scrutinize roof condition and age. A roof that is old, even if it is not leaking, can trigger a non-renewal or a surcharge.

What Protects You

Louisiana homeowners can stack three money programs on a FORTIFIED roof: the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program grant of up to 10,000 dollars when a lottery round is open, the Act 404 state income tax credit of up to 10,000 dollars, and Act 533 insurance premium discounts of up to 40 percent with select carriers: Liberty Mutual and Safeco up to 40 percent, USAA up to 37 percent, State Farm up to 35 percent, Allstate up to 30 percent. Louisiana Regulation 136 adds a separate mandatory discount on the hurricane portion of the premium for policies issued on or after January 1, 2027.
